Hearing and Vision Screening
Hearing and vision screening is done annually in all Howard County Schools, by the Howard County Health Department, in grades first entry to school or Pre-K, K, 1, 8, and for new students to the school system with no previous hearing and vision screening record. Students, in grades 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, who are referred in writing by teacher with a legitimate concern, will also be screened. A follow-up screening is done within a month. Included in this group are those who are absent or were not screened at the first screening. Each school is given screening and re-screening dates. The technician for the Heath Department will call or visit the health assistant to confirm their testing dates.
